1703. German System-Grothe Schuetzen Rifle

serial #100, 8.15x46R, 32" octagon barrel with a very good plus bore that shows a minor pit or two. The receiver area of this left-handed rifle is turning to a dull gray patina with traces of the original case colors, some scattered oxidation staining and freckling and some light pitting on lever. The buttplate shows oxidation staining throughout with a couple areas of light pitting and the barrel area shows an original blue finish that is fading to a brown patina with a few dings, scattered silvering and light oxidation staining. The walnut replacement stock rates very good showing some added varnish finish, a 1 1/2" crack on left rear of forend, a 2" crack at upper left of tang, a 1 1/4" crack at heel, a few scattered scratches, handling marks and dings. The top of the receiver is marked "SYSTEM GROTHE DRP", the left side of the receiver is marked with "SISTEM/(Arrow through Heart)/GROTHE" and the barrel is marked both "ED GROTHE & SOHN" and "STENDAL". There are five added flathead screws on the barrel and two scope blocks, the rifle has a hooded rear sight and a globe front sight. An interesting single shot rifle overall for the collector of German sporting arms. (207966-19) {C&R} (700/900) SOLD FOR $920.00
