serial #5047, 38-55, 26'' octagon barrel with full magazine and a good plus bore that shows rifling its entire length and also scattered pitting. This is a very fine first model 1894 rifle. First model 1894 rifles are hard to find in any condition and they are almost unheard of in this level of condition. The barrel and magazine retain about 20% original blue blended evenly with a smooth brown patina. The action shows 80% evenly thinning original blue with striations showing and with areas of loss bearing a lovely smooth brown patina. The loading gate shows 50% original fire blue with the balance being a smooth gray patina. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent retaining 95% original finish and with hardly any handling marks and perfect wood-to-metal fit. The lever and hammer show lots of original color case-hardened finish which is strong in protected areas and faded somewhat in other areas. The rifle is sighted with a Beach combination front, Lyman two-leaf hunting rear and a Lyman folding tang mounted peepsight. All screwheads remain clean, most appearing unturned. Factory records list the rifle as: Rifle, 38/55, octagon barrel, plain trigger, takedown, screw eyes, received in the warehouse on September 6, 1985 and shipped on September 11, 1895.
