serial #15482, 11mm French ordnance, 4 3/4'' part round part octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel of this Belgian-made revolver is marked ''FNI PAR (Finished by) GASTINNE-RENETTE A PARIS'' and the embellishments are masterfully executed featuring lovely deeply-engraved foliate scrollwork with finely-stippled shading, foliate circular motifs and geometric patterns on the top barrel flats. The sides of the hammer, trigger and all of the internal parts are attractively jeweled. The metal surfaces retain about 98% original nickel finish showing just a few small spot flaked to gray patina and minor handling marks. There are Belgian proofs on the cylinder and the left barrel flat is stamped in script ''Acier Fondu'' (cast steel). The checkered ebony grips remain in very good plus condition showing a small chip at the edge of the right panel and some areas of lightly compressed points. The revolver features a lanyard ring, ejector rod that clips onto the base pin and a double and single action mechanism with rebounding hammer, an improvement over the traditional French service revolver. Timing and lockup are excellent. This is a very fine revolver finished in Paris by the iconic Gastinne-Renette firm and likely marketed to the discerning French military officer or well-to-do gentleman.
