serial #355, 7 mm Mauser, 24" barrel with an about excellent bore showing only some very light frosting in the grooves but with strong rifling. Metal surfaces retain about 94% original blue, the loss due primarily to fading, perhaps a little more so on the bottom metal. There are some very sparse very light specks of surface rust, with two very small areas of pitting on the barrel's left side at the muzzle. The bolt and bolt races are still factory in-the-white with the follower showing nice fire temper blue. The classic style walnut stock features a rounded cheekpiece, rounded checkered pistol grip, Schnable tip and Oberndorf panels, it exhibits minor handling marks from the years and rates very good to near excellent. The grip and forend show nice dual checkered panels. The right side of the butt features a silver shield-shaped monogram plate which is engraved "JC White/Boston/Mass. These early prewar DWM sporters are very rarely encountered, this is a near excellent example. At some point after being brought to this country one leaf of the pivoting dual-leaf rear sight was flat-topped to accommodate the American addition of a Lyman model 50 aperture sight on the rear receiver ring, the installation was very neatly and professionally done including the stock inletting.
