serial #1183, 12ga. and 9.3 x 72R, 27" barrels with excellent bores, the 12ga. barrel showing a couple very old professionally raised dents, the rifled bore with some very very sparse frosting in the grooves, the shotgun barrel is choked full. The second set of barrels are 29 1/2" both 12ga. with excellent bores both choked full. The combination barrels retain about 90% original blue, the loss due primarily to fading. They are maker marked on the top rib and feature quick detachable claw-mount bases as well as open sights; the rear being a very interesting three-aperture offering designed to have built in lead for running or flying game. The barrels have minor geometric engraving at the breeches. The double shotgun tubes are also maker marked and retain about 80% original blue, the loss also due primarily to fading. They feature engraved scroll at the breeches. The scalloped boxlock frame features nice side bosses and sideclips with chiseled fences. It is a pleasing pewter-silver patina and features fine English-style scroll nearly overall. The checkered European walnut, pistolgrip buttstock rates excellent overall and features a rounded cheekpiece on its left side. The trigger guard and pistol grip cap are made of polished horn. The checkered steel buttplate features a trap door which will accommodate three cartridges. The splinter style forend rates very good plus to excellent showing a bit more wear, it has a nice bone forend tip inlay, carved in a fashion which matches two bone inlays at the rearmost portion of the buttstock cheeks. The gun has dual under-bites and a greener crossbolt, it exhibits only the slightest lateral play in both sets of barrels. The gun comes in an unmarked antique leather leg-o-mutton gun case. Overall an excellent quality prewar German two barrel double set. (2605-1) {C&R} (2000/4000) SOLD FOR $2587.50
