40-50 Sharps, 31" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. Top of barrel is stamped "F. TOGGENBURGER" and "ROTATION" and the left side of action is nicely engraved "F. Toggenburger / Manufacturer / Chicago, Ill". This rifle which is very European in style and features a large finger loop triggerguard with opening lever having a ring at its end which fits nicely into triggerguard. The barrel retains an even brown patina overall with hints of original blue finish present. There is some pitting on sides of barrel just above forearm on the breech end of barrel where it meets action has nicely turned rings. The action which appears to be of brass retains 95% nickel plated finish and features tasteful border engraving. The checkered walnut buttstock and pewter tipped forend rate very good with lots of original finish remaining but with some wear to checkering most likely due to the heavy weight of this rifle. The buttstock has a very thick and heavy Swiss style buttplate with threaded, removable top spur. Rifle is equipped with double set adjustable triggers, hooded front target sight, standard open rear and fully adjustable original tang mounted peep sight. Cleaning rod is present beneath barrel, although it is likely a replacement. Overall an interesting, scarce and fine quality American Schuetzen rifle. (2593-8) {ANTIQUE} (2000/3000)
