serial #5015, 16 ga. x 9.3 x 72R, 26" barrels choked modified and full with about good bores showing minor and moderate pitting their full-length, the right barrel showing remnants of an old raised dent. The rifled bore rates near very good showing some minor frosting in the grooves but with strong rifling. Barrels are now a dull faded gray-blue patina with some very minor areas of light oxidation. Frame and lockplates are deep relief engraved with foliate scroll and game scenes; the belly of the frame is marked "Herold", registered trademark. The metal surfaces are mostly a dull pewter gray patina also with minor oxidation. The checkered capped pistol grip buttstock is European walnut and rates near excellent showing an old cleaning, the toeline features a nice sideways-opening four-cartridge trapdoor. The forend is in like condition. Length of pull to the bone buttplate is 13 1/4", the top of the buttplate shows some insect damage. The left hammer screw is a replacement. Gun features an automatic flip-up rear sight when rifle barrel is actuated and the front trigger is a single-set. There are two vacant drilled and tapped holes at the rear of the rib, likely for some manner of scope base. An interesting if somewhat tired old retailer marked drilling.
