serial #369569, 458 Win mag, 24 1/2” barrel with a bright excellent bore. Metal surfaces retain about 98%-99% original blue finish, the loss due to some very minor scratches on right side of barrel at rear sight and left side of barrel near the sling swivel; they are very superficial. This 1956 manufactured gun is on the cusp of the transition from the single recoil crossbolt stock to the dual style recoil crossbolt, while the barrel is fitted only with the dovetailed screw nut on its underside and not the additional barrel-mounted recoil block which was affixed later to preclude stock splitting (this took place in early 1957). This second model stock rates excellent and was actually fitted by accuracy guru the late Creighton Audette of Springfield, Vermont, it is likley a 70's era stock with dual magnum cross-bolts and shows very nice fiddle-back grain its full length with a solid red "Winchester" marked 7/8" rifle pad. Includes Winchester super grade swivels and a 1" military style rifle sling. Overall an excellent transition model Super Grade African. (3136-4) {C&R} (4000/6000) SOLD FOR $4600.00
