serial #56796, 32-40, 30" part round part octagon No. 2 weight barrel with a very good bore. This is a very handsome and honest rifle. Special order features include the special length barrel, single set trigger, fancy stocks and a Swiss buttplate. The barrel retains about 75% evenly thinning original blue finish. The action retains about 80% original color case-hardened finsih which has mellowed slightly but remains quite visible. The uncheckered straight grip buttstock and forend are of highly figured walnut and rate very good plus with about 80% original finish remaining with most loss on bottom of forend. The rifle is equipped with a lovely full length Malcolm telescope which has somewhat dirty optics. The scope retains about 70% of its original finish which is blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The scope mounts rest in the original front sight dovetail with the rear being neatly added just ahead of the frame, partially obscuring the caliber marking. The original rear sight seat has been period filled with a dovetail slot blank of mahogany. Factory records confirm the configuration of this rifle listing stocks as simply "fancy" and showing a ship date of August 10th, 1892. A very handsome old Winchester rifle.
