serial #88008, 45-70 Govt, 26" barrel with an about very good bore which shows strong rifling but also some minor frosting within the grooves and some light pitting nearer the breech. The barrel is primarily a deep plum brown and pewter patina showing some minor scuffs and handling marks while the magazine tube and its hanger are more modern replacements. The receiver is primarily a deep pewter gray, toning more to brown on the right side, showing a few minor handling marks and oxidation stains but no mentionable pitting. Both hammer and lever show traces of some silver case-hardening. The smooth walnut buttstock rates very good showing an old light cleaning with some light dings and handling marks and a tiny crack at the toe, the splinter style forend is in a similar state of condition with no cracks. The front sight is a later gunsmith-made replacement, the rear sight is missing its standard rear blade, the flip-up ladder is still present as is its slide but has no spring tension as the rear blade is missing. Still a very good 86 in a desirable caliber that likely would perform just fine on deer and bear (or moose) size game. Manufactured 1894. (34331-45) {ANTIQUE} (1800/2200) SOLD FOR $2530.00
