serial #27226, 22 RF, 3 1/4" octagonal barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This revolver has traces of the original blue remaining on the ejector pin but otherwise has a dark gray-brown patina along the barrel and around the cylinder with some mild pinprick pitting at the breech-end of the barrel and on the circumference of the cylinder. The frame has retained about 90% of the original silver plated finish that has flaked lightly around the barrel hinge pin, exposed edges, and on the sides of the spur trigger. The backstrap is period engraved in elegant script, "Benjamin W. Bredin" and the walnut grips retain most of the original varnish with scattered minor handling marks around the butt. The barrel lock-up is tight with almost no lateral play in the hinge and the mechanism functions flawlessly. Benjamin W. Bredin enlisted in the 137th Pennsylvania as a Sergeant and mustered into Co. G on August 25, 1862, serving until the regiment mustered out at Harrisburg on June 1, 1863. A copy of some pages from the "History of Butler County" pertaining to Sgt. Bredin are included with the revolver which is a neat, personalized memento of the Civil War and in very good-fine condition. (74418-21) {ANTIQUE} (700/900) SOLD FOR $1265.00
