serial #1865, 45-85-285, 28" octagon barrel with a very good bright bore that shows just a little scattered light pitting with deep rifling. This is a nice honest old rifle. The barrel and magazine retain 65 - 70% original blue finish blending with a mellow brown patina. There are some scattered patches of light pitting present but they are not overly obtrusive. The action shows a nice strong Rampant Colt and retains about 15% original blue finish blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The dust cover appears to be a nicely made and aged custom replacement which looks pretty good. The original plain walnut buttstock and two piece checkered walnut forend rate very good plus and were likely lightly cleaned years ago and have a pleasing appearance with lots finish remaining. There is a tiny chip on either side of action at top tang. The forend checkering shows light wear and has some added finish present. The original steel crescent buttplate is in place bearing a pleasing smooth gray brown patina. The rifle is sighted with a German silver Rocky Mountain front and a semi buckhorn rear. Overall this is a nice solid large frame Lightning with a good amount of original finish remaining. (14365-5) {ANTIQUE) (3000/5000) SOLD FOR $4312.50
