40 caliber, 3 1/2" part round part octagon cannon barrel. This little pistol bears no proofs or makers marks but is of very nice quality and remains in quite fine condition. The lock is quite tiny and shows a little light scroll engraving featuring a gooseneck cock, unbridled frizzen and a faceted pan. The trigger is of an early form as well with curled tip. The barrel shows some light engraving toward breech end and has nicely turned rings at transition from octagon to round. The barrel tang and furniture are of brass with all of the furniture showing very nice relief floral decoration. The stock shows very nicely executed relief floral carving at ramrod channel and barrel tang. The barrel was lightly cleaned long ago and bears a mellow gray patina. The stock rates excellent retaining over 90% of what appears to be its original finish. A handsome little pistol possibly of German or Austrian origin.
