.52 caliber, 26 3/16" barrel with a fair to good unrifled bore. The breechblock is marked "U.S. / S. NORTH / MIDLtn / CONN / 1839" which remains mostly visible but is light in some areas. The carbine is equipped with its original triangular ramrod bayonet and single sling ring at rear of triggerguard. Iron surfaces of carbine retain a pleasing rich brown patina with just a small amount of old light surface oxidation present. The stock has great color and shows a very old refinish with some edges rounded over which actually gives the carbine a much more handsome and sleek appearance. There is a repaired chip on the right side of the top tang and a missing chip on left side. Overall this is a handsome and quite nice example of these early percussion martial arms.
