serial #382, 40-70 (marked on face of muzzle), 30" part round part octagon barrel with a near excellent bore. The left side of the action is engraved in large gothic letters "Creedmoor / Mid Range" and the right is engraved "Peabody & Martini Patents". This is a nice honest Peabody rifle. The barrel bears the proper Providence Tool address and retains about 80% evenly thinning original blue finish. The action retains about 90% original color case-hardened finish which has faded to a pleasing smoky German silver color. The checkered pistol grip walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent although they may have had a light coat of oil added at some point. The checkering remains strong, there is one small bruise in the checkering on right side of wrist and the iron rifle style buttplate bears a gray brown patina. The rifle is sighted with its original windgauge globe front which is properly numbered and a mid range Vernier tang mounted peep sight with properly numbered base, the staff is numbered "195". Overall a very solid and honest example of these scarce target rifles. (15006-32) {ANTIQUE} [Bill Brundage Collection] (5000/7000) SOLD FOR $3737.50
