serial #90424, 22 lr, 28" part round part octagon barrel with a very good bright bore. This rifle is fitted with Stevens-Pope barrel No. 619 which is coded "21 / 1.24". This rifle shows Pope's action alteration in addition to the barreling of this rifle. The sidewalls of the action were very neatly taken down making it look almost identical to a Low Wall but retaining the High Wall breechblock and having a slightly sharper curve at barrel breech. The Pope alterations also include a lateral takedown pin which passes from left to right beneath the chamber. The barrel has no provisions for sights (but has two pair of holes for scope blocks) and is milled for Pope's clamp mounts. The barrel retains about 40% evenly thinning original blue blending with a smooth brown patina. The action retains 90 - 95% bright beautiful blue finish which would not be questioned as original if not for the alteration. The rifle is equipped with a Schuetzen stock with Dutch cheekpiece and Helm buttplate and adjustable double set triggers. The forend is equipped with original Winchester palm rest, the round wooden knob appears to be a quality modern replacement, the balance is original. The stocks rate excellent with a good deal of original finish remaining. The rifle is equipped with a Stevens No. 475 scope mounted in Pope rings. Factory records indicate this rifle left the factory as: Rifle, 25/20, #3 octagon 28", Shuetzen set trigger, plain pistol grip, Dutch cheek, Helm plate, no rear seat, palm rest, mid range and windgauge. The rifle was received in the warehouse on 10-11-01 and shipped the next day. A very nice example of a Winchester High Wall Schuetzen rifle with Pope alterations performed at Stevens.
