serial #141639, 12 ga., 28" barrels with excellent bores choked full & full. This is an interesting shotgun. The gun began life as a pistolgrip and was fitted with this "B" grade stock which is numbered "176427" in the triggerguard channel with the grade designation "5". The triggerguard was neatly converted to straight grip style but has not been finished yet, it is fully fitted and polished. The most interesting part of this shotgun is the buttplate and butt profile. The gun wears a perfectly fitted factory installed skeleton buttplate but the profile is convex in shape rather than flat or slightly concave. It is clearly a special order factory feature but the reason one would want this shape is unknown. The action features typical "D" grade engraving with dogs on sides and ducks on belly. The barrels retain about 40% original blue with some areas lightly cleaned to gray and other areas showing oxidation staining and perhaps a little pinprick pitting. The action shows an even gray brown patina and is generally free of any pitting. The checkered straight grip buttstock is of nicely figured walnut and typical "B" style with checkered panels and lovely relief fleur-de-lis dropper points. The forend also rates about excellent and is properly numbered to the gun and shows some added flame color to the interior metal only. All checkering remains crisp including that on the butt. The shotgun locks up tightly but has been tightened with a neatly pinned shim mounted to underlug of barrel. This shotgun has a very unusual and peculiar butt, too bad it isn't still attached to the "B" grade gun it left with. (17657-206) {C&R} (1200/1800) SOLD FOR $1,265.00
