serial #198160B, 32 WCF, 24" round barrel with full magazine and a very good bore showing light wear to the edges of the lands. This is a nice '73 which exhibits lots of original blue finish. The barrel and magazine retain about 80% evenly thinning original blue finish. The action retains 90% plus strong original blue finish with nice striations visible on left side. The top of the action and barrel both show Winchester proofs indicating this rifle was returned to the factory for service sometime after 1905. The hammer and lever show a good deal of original color case hardened finish which is vivid in some areas. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate very good with about 20% original finish remaining and having turned dark over time and with just a couple light handling marks and dings. The toeline of the stock has a vacant hole from an added sling swivel which caused a 2" crack back to the buttplate. A corresponding hole is drilled and tapped in the bottom of the forend cap. With the wood having this rich, dark color, it should be easy for a good wood man to make the toeline hole disappear and with a swap of the forend cap, this rifle is "back to original". The rifle is sighted with a standard sporting front and a period aftermarket flattop rear. Overall a fine 1873 rifle clearly worthy of the minor restoration needed to bring it back to that next level. (17707-1) {ANTIQUE} (1500/2500) SOLD FOR $2,185.00
