serial #868308, 12 ga., 28" solid rib barrel choked modified with a bright excellent, likely unfired, bore. The metal surfaces retain 98-99% original blue, the loss due only to some extremely light handling wear, no doubt from when the gun was assembled in some dealers shop, then disassembled and put away. There is little or no wear on the carrier with only slight wear on the bolt, the breech face with old hardened oil; there is a very light scratch on the right receiver flat opposite where one normally finds a reassembly scratch, no doubt from some helpful salesclerk unfamiliar with how the arm assembled. The smooth walnut pistolgrip buttstock and grooved forend rate excellent, the left side of the butt showing very slight box rub wear, a similar amount on the right side. The arm includes its original box, correctly end labeled and serial numbered to the gun. The box bottom rates very good with only one tear and with the internal softwood end supports. The top is somewhat tender with numerous taped repairs, a piece missing at one corner and numerous tears through the lid; the original label is 93% intact and fully readable, the end label is in a similar state of condition; there are remnants of some taped repairs and there is some cellophane tape still present. Included in the box is an original Winchester hardwood migratory waterfowl plug with wrapped Winchester label stating it is for models 1901, 97, 12; and an original Winchester "Important Instructions for Model 12" pamphlet which describes the takedown, assembly and operation of the gun. Overall an absolutely superb model 12 which appears unfired, un-used since leaving New Haven in 1941. (37771-14) {C&R} (2000/3000) SOLD $1,725.00
