Description Update (11/15/16): Has a 3/4" crack at toe of butt, 2" repaired crack on forend and a circular plug where the sling stud was at rear.

serial #1875, 38-50 Ballard Everlasting, 28" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. This rifle features a straight grip buttstock with a checkered steel shotgun style buttplate and forend with a subtle schnabel tip. The barrel retains a pleasing even brown patina which is quite smooth and shows perhaps a little original blue blending here and there. The action retains about 15 or 20% original color case hardened finish which is blending with a dark gray patina. The stocks rate excellent with nice figure in butt and about 70% original finish remaining. There is a 3/16" x 2 1/2" sliver missing from the top right side of forend at the tip. The rifle is sighted with a gold washed Beach combination front, standard sporting rear and a mid-range folding tang mounted peepsight. The barrel shows a second dovetail which is beneath the rear sight near the elevator, other than that the rifle appears unaltered and all original. It is uncommon to find Ballard rifles with these coarsely checkered steel shotgun buttplates. A neat old Ballard rifle. (17966-6) {ANTIQUE} (2000/3000) SOLD FOR $1,840.00
