serial #168623, 44 CF, 20" round barrel with full magazine and an about good bore. This is a nice example of the last variation of the 1866 carbine with iron furniture. The barrel and magazine retain an even brown painta with a little scattered light surface oxidation, some scattered light pits and impact marks and a fully legible barrel address. The action bears a wonderful untouched patina with well-defined edges and nice tight sideplates. There are a few scattered light impact marks on the action but overall the action is really nice. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent retaining most of their original finish and exhibiting beautiful fit and one notable bruise on left side near buttplate. The iron carbine buttplate has a trapdoor which houses the iron three-piece cleaning rod. The carbine is sighted with standard original carbine sights. The included factory letter lists the gun as follows: Carbine, 44 Centerfire, received in the warehouse on May 4, 1891 and shipping on May 13, 1891. Overall a very nice and very honest 1866 saddle gun. (18087-7) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection] (5000/7000) SOLD FOR $6,325.00
