serial #17705, 44 CF, 20" round barrel with full magazine and a good plus bore that shows wear. This second model carbine features no externally visible serial number with frame number being on the side of the lower tang. The barrel and magazine retain an even rich brown patina overall. The barrel markings which are always light on these early 1866's is only partially visible. The action shows a very pleasing mellow and even patina with lightly softened edges. The top of the frame has an unusual mark, not sure if it is just a ding or a marking intentionally placed there. The plain walnut stock rates very good with rich, dark color and a pleasing surface which shows its years. There are a couple repaired cracks which emanate from either side of the rear of the top tang and terminate at the nose of the comb. The carbine features its original front sight which is integral with the front barrel band along with an old, simple frontier replacement rear sight mounted in factory dovetail. This is a nice honest second model saddle gun which shows years of honest use. (18087-6) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection] (4000/6000) SOLD FOR $4,887.50
