serial #12109, 8mm Mauser, 22" barrel with a very good bore that shows scattered frosting and light pitting in the grooves but strong rifling. The receiver area of this 1942 dated rifle retains about 60% original blue with the balance showing fading, some scattered freckling, a couple spots of staining and a large spot of staining on top at rear over some light pitting. The magazine, triggerguard and lower tang area have primarily turned a dull brown patina with some scattered light freckling and silvering and a few small dings on left side of magazine. The bands and blast cone are a dull gray patina with scattered light freckling and light silvering scratches. The barrel and bayonet lug area retain about 60% original blue with the loss due to scattered silvering and fading and some light dings and faint freckling specks. The "bpr" marked buttplate shows oxidation staining throghout and the walnut stock rates very good overall as-lightly cleaned showing perhaps some lightly added oil, with faint Waffenamt on the underside of pistolgrip, an epoxy repaired 5" crack on the handguard, another epoxy repaired 3" crack on handguard, a few small hairline cracks on right side of butt, a 1/2" abrasion to right rear of receiver and a few scattered dings, handling marks and light scratches. The cleaning rod is numbered "68" and marked "(Eagle)/77", the bolt head is marked both with the rifle's serial number and "28J0" and all other visible serialized parts are numbered matching. An honest example of a very rare and desirable Nazi self-loading rifle that will likely please the most advanced military collector.
