serial #553794, 45-70, 32 5/8" barrel with a very good bore that shows frosting throughout and some scattered pitting but strong rifling. The rear sight assembly, barrel and bands have faded to a dull brown patina with some scattered spots of oxidation staining. The breechblock, hammer and upper tang show oxidation staining throughout. The buttplate also shows oxidation throughout but also has an area of pitting, but the triggerguard and lockplate show traces of an arsenal blue finish with scattered fading, freckling and oxidation staining. The walnut stock rates very good with a couple chips, scattered dings, abrasions, scratches and handling marks. The stock is marked with a strong 1892 dated inspector's cartouche, a strong circle "P" firing proof, a crisp rack number "15" on top of pistolgrip and another crisp rack number "14" on the left side of butt. The hammer appears to function well, the rifle has the correct ramrod bayonet, a sight hood and it is equipped with a Buffington rear sight. A very good example of these late model Trapdoor rifles.
