serial #4032a, 8mm Mauser, 24" barrel with a very good bore that shows some scattered light pitting. The metal surfaces of this 1917-vintage carbine show a fading arsenal blue finish that is turning a dull brown patina showing scattered silvering scratches and freckling. The beech stock rates very good as lightly cleaned with a crisp "EWB" marking for the Einwohner Bayern, a strong "B" marking, a couple strong Imperial cartouches on underside of butt, a 1" crack and chip on right side of bolt, a 1/3" chip at upper tang, a 1" chip at toe, scattered dings, handling marks and scratches. The cocking piece is numbered "325", the follower and bolt stop are lined-out matching and the remaining visible parts are matching. This carbine includes an unmarked steel muzzle cap that shows scattered oxidation. A very good example of a World War One era KAR 98a overall.
