serial #2689hh, 8mm Mauser, 29" barrel with a very good bore that shows light pitting throughout most of its length but strong rifling. The metal surfaces of this 1917 vintage rifle show a balance between an arsenal blue finish and brown patina with scattered small areas of light pitting and oxidation staining. The hardwood stock rates very good showing scattered dings, abrasions, minor chips, handling marks and a crisp Weimar eagle on the right side of butt. There is a faint eagle on the underside of the butt which is not Imperial or Nazi but possibly Weimar, the handguard is beech and may be a replacement and the bolt components and cleaning rod are mismatched but the remaining parts are matching to the receiver. The rear sight is marked "S/42G" and an original brown leather sling that shows crazing and flaking throughout, and an original unmarked steel muzzle cap that shows oxidation staining, are included. An interesting interwar Mauser rifle overall. (207879-172) {C&R} [Craig Brown Collection] (600/800) SOLD FOR $632.50
