Wonderful Cased Colt 1849 Pocket Model Revolver serial #226365 all matching including wedge, .31 cal., 4" octagon barrel with a near excellent bore. This revolver bears the letter "L" above or below each of the serial numbers. This "L" was an export mark used by Colt on guns made in Hartford and intended for shipment to London. This revolver is unusual in that it has the "L" but does not bear any London proofs meaning it was never sold in England and in fact may have never left our shores. The condition of the revolver is wonderful with the barrel retaining about 95% bright original blue finish with just a little light flaking and with those areas bearing a pleasing smooth brown patina. The loading lever shows very strong original color case-hardened finish. The cylinder shows all of its original stagecoach hold-up scene and retains about 30-40% original blue with the balance flaked and with those areas showing a lovely smooth brown patina. The frame retains 98% brilliant original color case-hardened finish while the brass gripstraps retain about 85% original silver plated finish with loss being due to thinning on the backstrap. The one-piece walnut grip rates excellent with 95% original finish remaining. The revolver comes cased in its original walnut case which rates excellent with proper scribe marks around hinges and lock and with no cracks in the lid or soft wood bottom. The interior of the case is lined in red baize which is excellent and the included accessories are a nice eagle flask, brass two cavity "COLT'S / PATENT" marked mould and a small Eley cap tin. The front of the case has an applied round brass keyhole escutcheon which is held in place with two tiny screws. Key is present. A very nice, high condition cased Colt Pocket. Robert Romagnoli Collection (18120-1) {ANTIQUE} (4000/6000) SOLD FOR $5,175.00
