serial #6988i, 8mm Mauser, 29" barrel with a very good bore that shows scattered light pitting and frosting. The metal surfaces of this 1917 vintage rifle have turned to a dull gray patina with scattered traces of original blue and some scattered light freckling. The beech stock rates very good as lightly cleaned with a faint "B" marking on right side of butt, some lightly added oil finish, a 1" crack on right side of butt, scattered dings, handling marks and light scratches. The cleaning rod is numbered "99" but all other visible parts are matching to the receiver. This rifle includes a steel muzzle cap that is unit marked "2.146" and numbered "120", correct style leather sling that may be a reproduction. A very good example of a late-war GEW 98 rifle. (207879-154) {C&R} [Craig Brown Collection] (800/1200) SOLD FOR $1,265.00
