771. German KAR 88 Bolt Action Carbine by Erfurt

Click on images for enlarged versions.

serial #5892a, 8mm Mauser, 17 1/2" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The in-the-white receiver, bolt and buttplate of this 1890 dated and "S" marked carbine are turning a silver pewter and show scattered oxidation staining. The blued barrel, bands, rear sight assembly, triggerguard and magazine retain 90% original blue with scattered areas of fading. The walnut stock rates very good with an armory varnish finish, crisp Imperial cartouches, scattered abrasions, chips, dings, handling marks and scratches. All visible serialized parts are matching, there is a lined-out unit marking on the rear band that is indiscernible and an undisturbed unit marking on the front band which reads "16.D.180". A nice example of an early German carbine. (207879-229) {ANTIQUE} [Craig Brown Collection] (800/1000) SOLD FOR $2,300.00
