serial #026576, 9mm, 5" barrel with a very good bore that shows some scattered frosting. The metal surfaces of this Zero Series ac45 pistol retain 95% original blue with some fading on firing pin cover and safety, some silvering of the high edges of slide and barrel and silvering on front and backstrap. The phenolic resin grips rate very good with a moderate chip at the bottom left panel, some staining and handling marks. As-is common for late war guns the parts are mixed with the barrel appearing numbered "76", the front block being un-numbered and the slide being mismatched. The slide and barrel both are marked with Walther "(Eagle)/359" Waffenamts but the frame does not have any visible Waffenamt markings and the prefix of "0" the frame is of an earlier type. in the book the P.38 Pistol the Walther Pistols 1930-1945 Warren Buxton estimates that only 1985 of these late-war Zero-series pistols were made making them rare. This pistol includes a single magazine that is marked with an upside down "(Eagle)/359" Waffenamt on the spine. A nice example of a hard-to-find late war P.38.
