773. German KAR 88 Bolt Action Carbine by VC Schilling

serial #512d, 8mm Mauser, 17 1/2" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The in-the-white receiver, buttplate and bolt of this 1890 dated and "S" marked carbine show some scattered light oxidation staining, while the bolt body shows moderate oxidation staining. The blued barrel, bands, rear sight assembly, magazine and triggerguard retain 95% original blue with scattered silvering and fading on the exposed edges. The walnut stock rates very good with an armory varnish finish, crisp Imperial inspection stamps, scattered dings, handling marks, abrasions and scratches. The triggerguard screws are un-numbered with the front screw protruding outward but all other parts are matching to the receiver. There is a lined-out unit marking on the rear band which reads "B2SR4.44" and the rear sight elevator is stiff. A nice example of a KAR 88 from a hard-to-find maker. (207879-230) {ANTIQUE} [Craig Brown Collection] (800/1000) SOLD FOR $1,955.00
