776. Starr Percussion Civil War_Carbine

serial #16779, .54 cal., 21" barrel with an about very good bore showing evident rifling with pitting and fine oxidation the entire length. The barrel has an overall brown and gray patina with scattered fine oxidation, tiny light impact marks and good traces of fading original blue along the wood line. The action has an overall smoky gray patina with scattered fine pinprick pitting, the hammer is a brighter pale brown with areas of bright original case colors. The lock, frame and barrel are appropriately marked, the left side of the breech is marked "H.G.S.". The walnut stock and forend rate good to very good with numerous dents and handling marks, a thin crack at the rear and a 1/2" chip along the rear edge of the forend, cartouche and a square bordered cross incise-carved in the left side of the stock. The brass barrel band and buttplate are a lightly mellowed goldenrod with a few light impact marks and patches of fine pinprick pitting. The saddle ring remains present and in place. The rear lock bolt is missing and the locking block and breechblock no longer engage properly. A good to about very good Starr percussion carbine. (7877-21) {ANTIQUE} (800/1200) SOLD FOR $690.00
