778. U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory

serial #426179, 45-70 Govt., 32 5/8" barrel with a bright excellent bore showing strong rifling with some minor very fine pits within the grooves. The metal surfaces have a pleasing brown patina with scattered fine oxidation staining. The two piece triggerguard still retaining generous original blue and the interior of the 1884 dated breechblock retains vivid case colors. The walnut stock rates very good plus with strong 1888 cartouche, a small thin check at the rear of the lockplate and expected handling marks acquired over time. The rifle is equipped with a standard front sight, proper Buffington rear sight, the lock and three position tumbler remain strong and a grooved slotted tip cleaning rod is included.
