serial #69049, 38-40, 24" octagon barrel with a good plus bright bore that shows some scattered pitting. This is a very handsome straight grip deluxe rifle that has been expertly restored and then aged and toned to a very aesthetically pleasing state. The rifle features fancy straight grip checkered walnut stocks with smooth steel shotgun buttplate. The barrel retains 99% expertly restored blue finish with nice crisp barrel markings. The action retains about 90% lovely old restored color case-hardened finish which is faded and has a pleasing aged appearance. The loading gate retains 98% fire blue while the hammer and lever match the action. The checkered straight grip walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent with a good deal of what appears to be its original oil finish and with strong clean checkering. The rifle is sighted with standard sporting front and rear sights. The left side of the lower tang bears assembly codes "XX 434" with matching "434" being stamped in top tang inlet of stock, the clearly original smooth steel shotgun buttplate does not show the assembly number. The rifle comes with a record request form from Cody which reads: Rifle, 38, octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered stock, 1/2 magazine, casehardened, received in the warehouse on March 1, 1881 and shipped on March 4, 1881 to order #24234.
