serial #85036, 44-40, 24" part round part octagon barrel with button magazine and a very good bore. This rifle features a special order part octagon barrel with shorter than standard magazine and a "fancy stock". The metal surfaces of rifle have been expertly restored and then aged by Turnbull restoration. The barrel retains 99% original blue finish while the action, hammer, lever, nosecap and buttplate all show 99% wonderful restored color case-hardened finish. The fancy straight grip walnut buttstock and forend are not checkered but show excellent figure and rate about excellent with lots of original finish remaining. The lower left tang shows assembly number "4175 XX" with matching assembly number located on the inside toe of butt. The stock does not actually show the number but the wood shows proper age in the channels and end grain and we are quite confident that the stocks are indeed original to the rifle. The included factory letter reads as follows: Rifle, casehardened, 1/2 octagon barrel, plain trigger, fancy stock, 1/2 magazine, received in the warehouse on January 1, 1882 and shipped on June 1, 1882. A handsome special order 1873 rifle. (18087-11) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection] (3000/4000) SOLD FOR $4,600.00
