serial #24685, 50-95, 26" round factory matte barrel with button magazine and a good bore that shows some scattered pitting in the grooves. This rifle features numerous special order features which include a matted barrel, shorter than standard magazine, checkered pistolgrip fancy stocks, checkered hard rubber buttplate and factory engraved hammer, lever and nosecap. The rifle remains in very fine original condition. The barrel retains about 95% original blue overall with loss due primarily to even light thinning. The action retains perhaps 90% original color case-hardened finish which is slightly more muted on the right side and more vivid on the left but it is evident on most surfaces with areas of loss bearing a pleasing dark gray patina. The checkered pistolgrip buttstock and forend are excellent with about 90% original finish remaining and with most loss being on belly of forend from honest carry wear. The checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate rates excellent with no chips. The hammer, lever and nosecap all show factory scroll engraving and the top of the dust cover is marked "WINCHESTER EXPRESS / 50 CAL. 95 GRS.". The included factory letter reads as follows: rifle, express, 26" round barrel, matted barrel, checkered stock, shotgun butt, rubber butt plate, case-hardened, engraved, received in the warehouse on September 9, 1882 and shipped on September 12, 1882, returned and repaired on October 8, 1895 gun was changed to a 1/2 magazine. The rifle is sighted with a beaded blade front and standard open sporting rear. This rifle is consecutively numbered to both the preceding and following lots in this sale. An extremely fine big bore 1876 deluxe rifle suitable for any fine collection of Winchester rifles. (18087-38) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection] (20,000/30,000) SOLD FOR $21,850.00
