Description Update (3/15/17): "Ed. G." nicely engraved on cartridge lifter during period of use

serial #24686, 50-95, 26" full octagon factory matte barrel with button magazine and a very good bore. This rifle features numerous special order features which include a matted barrel, shorter than standard magazine, checkered pistolgrip fancy stocks, checkered hard rubber buttplate and factory engraved hammer, lever and nosecap. The rifle remains in fine original condition. The barrel retains about 80% evenly thinning original blue overall. The action retains perhaps 70% original color case-hardened finish which has faded to a mottled German silver color with areas of loss bearing a pleasing smooth gray patina. The checkered pistolgrip buttstock and forend are excellent with about 80% original finish remaining and with cracks at either side of the rear top tang, they do not seem to flex under pressure and would likely be an easy repair for a good wood man. The checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate rates excellent with no chips. The hammer, lever and nosecap all show factory scroll engraving and the top of the dust cover is marked "WINCHESTER EXPRESS / 50 CAL. 95 GRS.". The included factory letter reads as follows: rifle, case-hardened, express caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered stock with pistolgrip, 1/2 magazine, matted barrel, rubber buttplate, engraved etc., returned and repaired October 9, 1887, received in the warehouse on September 9, 1882 and shipped on September 12, 1882. The rifle is sighted with a beaded blade ramp mounted front and a W.F. Sheard three folding leaf express rear sight. This rifle is consecutively numbered to the preceding two lots in this sale. A fine big bore 1876 deluxe rifle. (18087-39) {ANTIQUE} [Kenneth Fry Collection] (15,000/25,000) SOLD FOR $14,950.00
