serial #218304, 22 Long, 24" round barrel with full magazine and a fair bore. This is a very nice 1873 rifle. The barrel and magazine retain about 75% evenly thinning original blue finish which is blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The action retains about 80% original blue finish with loss mainly on the right side ahead of sideplate where there is flaking and the exposed metal shows a smooth gray brown patina. The hammer and lever retain strong original color case-hardened finish. The plain walnut stock and forend rate about excellent with a good deal of original finish, very few handling marks and a nice honest surface showing raised grain. The rifle is nicely sighted with a gold washed Beach combination front, standard sporting rear and early Winchester folding tang mounted 1873 peepsight. Just a very clean and completely honest rifle overall. A excellent example of the 1873 rimfire rifle suitable for a fine collection of Winchester rifles.
