serial #311509, 45 ACP, 5" Colt barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this exceptional pistol retain about 99% original dark hot immersion blue "Army black" over a hasty wartime polish, showing the very slightest wear on the leading edges of the slide and a bit of rub wear on the right side near the muzzle. The diamond checkered walnut grips rate excellent retaining nearly all their original varnish. The pistol exhibits a crisp left-side "(eaglehead)/S14" inspectors marking and included is a very nice two-tone Colt magazine. This pistol was part of a May 1918, 4200 gun shipment to the Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory and is one of the earliest arms to have the "Army black" finishes. Really a superb example overall which appears to have seen little or no use. (38100-80) {C&R} [Walter "Walt" Rauch Collection] (3000/5000) SOLD FOR $5,175.00
