102. Fine Cased Alexander Henry Falling Block Sporting Rifle Retailed by Manton & Company of Calcutta

serial #7433, .500 3" BPE, 28 1/2" round tapered barrel with a bright excellent bore. This rifle features a stepped and bolted lockplate with early fastening system utilizing an external screw at the rear. The barrel is equipped with a full rib which has hand file cut matting on top and holds a low profile beaded blade front with single standing and single folding leaf rear sight graduated for 100 and 200 yards. The lock is engraved "MANTON & CO." and the top of the rib has an open field which is engraved "MANTON & CO. MAKERS CALCUTTA" and the top of the action above chamber is engraved "HENRY'S / PATENT". The action is not numbered and the only serial number on the gun is on the bottom of the barrel beneath the wedge fastened forend. The condition of the rifle is wonderful with the barrel retaining 95% strong original blue finish overall. The action and lock show only simple border engraving and retain 95% original color case-hardened finish on action and perhaps 70% on the lock with the colors on the rear of lock more muted from having contact with the shooter's hand. The checkered pistolgrip buttstock and forend are of nice straight grained English walnut and rate excellent with 95% original finish remaining with just a few scattered light handling marks. The rifle features a smooth steel shotgun buttplate which retains 95% original blue. a horn pistolgrip cap and the typical Henry treatment at the forend tip. The rifle is equipped with sling eyes on bottom of barrel and in toeline of buttstock. The rifle comes cased in an oak full length case with brass reinforced corners and a Manton & Co Calcutta label. The case includes the following loading tools: a brass bullet mould with removable base plug and hollow nose pin and angled pour channel, a handheld capper/decapper along with a table top capper/decapper, powder measure, filler tube and rammer and a Hawksley bullet sizer/crimper, a spare firing pin and bushing, an ebony handled firing pin bushing removal tool and turnscrew, a three piece brass cleaning rod and some cleaning implements. The condition of the case is very good plus inside and out. This is a very fine cased British big game sporting rifle that was marketed through Manton & Company of Calcutta during India's hunting heyday. (18683-1) {ANTIQUE} (18000/22000) SOLD FOR $19,550.00
