30" diamond shaped blade with a 36 1/2" overall length. The blade is beautifully etched with floral patterns, stands of arms, Federal Eagle, "U.S. Medical Staff" and "Ames / Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass." on the reverse ricasso with the balance of the blade remaining bright showing only some light scabbard scuffs and a speck or two of light freckling. The cast brass hilt is the regulation pattern with embossed "MS" above 13 stars in a foliate border on the obverse langet. The brass has toned to a reddish tarnished ocher patina with faint traces of original gold wash along the protected edges. The components have loosened lightly with age, the buffer washer is scuffed and soiled but remains present. The brass scabbard is nicely decorated with foliate scroll on the obverse side and is maker marked on the reverse side towards the throat. The brass shows a couple shallow dents and has a acquired a patina similar to the hilt. An overall very good example of these hard to come by swords. (58619-3) (700/900) SOLD FOR $747.50
