126. Exceptional Colt Match Target Woodsman Pistol

serial #MT8961, 22 LR, 6 1/2" heavy barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this lovely pistol retain 99% plus original blue with some tiny whispers of wear on the sharpest edges and a tiny rub at the muzzle; the muzzle flat remaining brilliant. Close scrutiny under high bright light does reveal a few of the very lightest of surface scratches which do not even breech the blue, they are easily missed and normally would not even warrant the mention but for the very high condition of this arm. The checkered walnut scant "elephant ear" grips rate excellent with their factory Rampant Colt medallions intact. Long a source of controversy, the "scant Elephant Ear" grip on this example has Colt milling and fitting marks on its interior, clearly original "first cut" checkering and factory attached Rampant Colt medallions, clearly special order grips. Mr. Rayburn confirmed to the consignor that these were indeed factory original grips. A single two-tone "Colt Woodsman/Cal. 22 L.R./Match Target Mod." marked magazine is included which rates excellent. The gun comes with its original purple-tone hinge-top box, numbered to the gun on the bottom in pencil. The box itself rates very fine to near excellent with strong end labels. Inside we find an original blued Colt screwdriver in manila envelope, test target numbered to the gun, yellow hang tag explaining the Stevens rear sight, boar bristle cleaning brush, "shooting suggestions" pamphlet and the bi-fold instructional sheet. Overall a really superb example with a very complete complement of accessories. It would be very difficult to find a better example.
