serial #240792, 257 Roberts, 24" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this nice 1953-made rifle retain about 98 to near 99% original blue, the loss due primarily to some very light sharp edge wear and perhaps a widely scattered minor handling mark here or there. The bolt body remains bright with only light operational wear and one small spot of light oxidation or pinprick pitting on the knob of the bolt; the bolt is appropriately DC pencil-numbered to the gun on its underside. The checkered walnut Monte Carlo stock rates excellent with all its original varnish and only minor dings and handling marks here and there and a small scratch to the rear of the forend screw. The original front sight and hood are in place, the rear sight boss with a correct Marbles No. 69 folding leaf rear sight, which was standard until 1954. Overall a very lovely Pre '64 model 70 in a very desirable caliber, the small spot on the bolt handle is very unobtrusive and certainly could be rectified by a good restorer who knew his business if one wished.
