serial #27, 44-40, 24" octagon barrel with a full magazine and an about very good bore. This is a very early non-prefix numbered rifle which features the "S" shaped lever and the barrel address reads only "KENNEDY" in block letters, the caliber designation is "44 CAL. C.F.". The top tang also shows the early style Burgess patent marking and the top cover shows the smaller, early gas escape hole and the hammer shows the early knurling. This is one of the first Kennedys to roll off of the line and it remains in very nice, completely honest condition. The barrel and magazine retain an even and generally smooth brown patina with generous traces of original blue in protected areas. The action shows about 70% evenly thinning original blue with area of loss bearing a pleasing smooth brown patina with several screws showing slight slot wear. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate very good with a good deal of original finish remaining and with blunt impact marks on wrist on left side of top tang and with light scratches and handling marks from the years. The rifle is sighted with a German silver blade Rocky Mountain front and open sporting rear.A very early and honest Whitney Kennedy rifle. (18315-81LTS142) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection] (2500/3500) SOLD FOR $3,737.50
