17. Colt New Service Double Action Revolver

serial #349144, 44-40 WCF, 5 1/2" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this nice large frame Colt retain 98-99% original blue, the loss is due to some extremely light high edge wear and a minute handling mark or two here and there. The bright-polished sides of the hammer remain brilliant and the color case-hardening on the lanyard loop is vivid. The checkered walnut silver medallion Rampant Colt grips rate excellent to as-new, they are un-numbered and fit precisely. The firing pin bushing shows virtually no wear, there is no flash evidence on the face of the cylinder and the forcing cone remains bright with hardened oil on its interior. There are a few minor dings on the crane and the frame just above it but they are very unobtrusive. The arm comes in its original purple-tone, hinge-top box, serial numbered to the gun on its underside, with onion skin wrap on the interior. The box rates very good to very good plus with minor scuffs here and there and separated seams at the corners of the lid, the end of label still very readable. Overall a really super New Service that appears to have seen little or no use since leaving the blue dome in 1940. (38659-29) {C&R} (2500/4000) SOLD FOR $4,887.50
