519. U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory

serial #447603, 45-70, 32 5/8" barrel with a good bore that shows scattered pitting and frosting but strong rifling. The barrel and bands retain 85% original blue with some freckling on barrel and scattered flaking to brown. The breechblock and upper tang retain generous traces of the original case colors with scattered fading to gray and oxidation staining. The lock and hammer retain 80-85% original blue with some freckling and scattered flaking to brown. The lower tang retains 95% original blue with some light oxidation specks and light flaking to brown. The buttplate retains 50-60% original blue with scattered flaking to gray and flaking to brown. The walnut stock rates very good with an older oil finish, a strong 1889 dated inspector's cartouche, a strong circled "P" firing proof, scattered handling marks and dings. The rifle is equipped with a correct ramrod and a Buffington rear sight. A very good example of a later production Trapdoor rifle. (208613-15) {ANTIQUE} (600/800) SOLD FOR $862.50
