.69 Cal, 42" round barrel with an excellent bore that shows some scattered light pitting. The metal surfaces of this very fine musket remain mostly bright with some sparsely scattered tiny specks of freckling and oxidation staining. The walnut stock rates about excellent with old oil finish, a crisp inspector's cartouche, a small crack between the sideplate and barrel, a tiny crack behind lockplate, a small chip in the ramrod channel, scattered dings and handling marks. The lock is dated 1848 and the upper tang is dated 1849. The hammer appears to function well and a correct trumpet shaped ramrod is present. A nice example of these U.S. smoothbore muskets.
