serial #27240, 30-40 Krag, 22" barrel with an about very good bore showing some darkness in the grooves, light oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this carbine has mostly toned to a blue-gray patina with stronger remnants of original blue in the more protected areas, moderate freckling, small spots of oxidation staining and light scratches. The action has mostly worn to gunmetal gray with areas toning to gray-brown patina, scattered oxidation staining, a few patches of old light pitting and a few streaks of original blue lurking about. The top of the bolt and rear sight retain strong bright blue perhaps 60% with light oxidation staining, toning to brown and some faint fire blue remaining on the extractor. The straight grip walnut buttstock and forend remain in good overall condition with mostly worn finish, a thin 1 3/4" crack right of the upper tang, a tiny drying crack at the heel and some further small dings, dents, tiny chips and handling marks. There is no handguard present, the stock is fitted with sling swivels and the black checkered hard rubber widow's peak buttplate is still present in fair overall condition with some old smoothed-over chips at the toe, a 1" crack at the lower screw, scattered scuffs and discoloration. This carbine once had a saddle ring that is now filled in with a large screw, one screw on the left-side frame is missing and there are two extra added holes one at left rear of frame and the other on the barrel forward of the rear sight dovetail. The carbine is sighted with a white bead front that shows a couple dings and sporting rear. The gun could use a good cleaning but seems to function well mechanically.
