serial #20837, 12 ga., 29" barrels choked a tight modified and a light improved modified, with bright very good bores which show remnants of some light pitting. The barrels retain about 98% later, excellent quality rust blue. There are nice engraved wedges of oakleaf scroll for about 2" at the breeches. The frame and long tangs are a pewter gunmetal gray and over all relief engraved with oakleaf scroll and game scene vignettes with waterfowl, gamebirds and a dog chasing a chamois. The upper tang shows a nice gun dog and a hare with the intertwined monogrammed initials "PF". The checkered European walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock rates very good plus to excellent as lightly refinished, showing some lovely grain figure and a rounded left-side cheekpiece. The splinter style forend is similar, the metal now slightly proud in that area. The horn triggerguard rates excellent, as does the horn under lever which shows a couple spots of very minor insect damage. The gun seems to operate properly and is on-face. A very nice example of these somewhat odd actions, very nicely engraved. (38693-17) {C&R} (700/900) SOLD FOR $1,495.00
