661. German KAR 88 Bolt Action Carbine by CG Haenel

serial #7456d, 8mm Mauser, 17 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that shows some light frosting. The in-the-white receiver and bolt of this 1890 dated and "S" marked carbine remain partially bright with a couple spots of oxidation staining. The barrel and bands are drifting to a dull brown patina with generous traces of original blue with a couple light dents in the barrel jacket and some light freckling. The magazine and triggerguard retain 75% original blue with overall flaking to brown. The walnut stock rates very good with an added oil finish, a strong Imperial cartouche, a tight 1" crack behind the upper tang, scattered dings and handling marks. All visible parts are matching and there is a unit marking on the rear band that reads "16.D.5.110.". Overall a fine example of these early German repeating carbines.
